Textured hair behaves very differently wet vs. dry. When textured hair is wet, it elongates the curl pattern making it appear longer, looser, and smoother than it actually is in its natural dry state. This is why textured haircuts are designed with the dry, natural state in mind, not just how the hair looks wet. Cutting or judging shape only when hair is wet can be misleading as it hides true shape, density, and curl pattern.

Because I cut dry, please arrive for your appointment with a fresh “Wash and Go” style.

A “Wash & Go” style means to cleanse your scalp, condition and fully detangle your hair on wash day, then style your hair with any lightweight product/s of your choice. Avoid using oily and heavily weighted products, as they can leave a heavy residue layered on your curls once dry. Ideally, the products used should allow me to easily access your hair throughout the cut. Then dry your hair as you normally would. Either air drying or diffusing.

Never arrive with your hair matted and tangled.

I get that curly hair is never TRULY detangled once it’s in a natural dry state so I’m not looking for perfection, but to easily get through the hair without causing any discomfort throughout the service. Also it just allows the most accurate results. If you have a sensitive scalp and are prone to large knots; do a Wash & Go on the day of your appointment. Please note, if you arrive unprepared for your service, you will be charged for the appointment and your appointment will be rescheduled immediately. Rarely do I choose to proceed with washing first and then cutting, as I usually do not have time to restyle it. However, if there is time to style it again after the cut, you will be charged for the additional style and time it takes to do so.

Recommended for all NEW and RETURNING clients

• Hair should be worn down and completely dry for appointment.

• Do not pull, pin, tie or push hair down tightly, as this stretches the curls too much - especially around your face. If you did not follow hair prep recommendations and detangling your hair takes longer than the given time for your service, you will be charged a detangling fee. Please note that a $25 fee begins at every 15-minute interval past wash time. This charge is non-negotiable.

• Please do not have your hair in any kind of twist, braids or updo since it can change your curl/wave pattern and direction. NOTE: After consulting, we begin the service by cutting dry. I understand some appointments are after work hours where you may need to style your hair back, so we can understand if hair is loosely tucked using bobby pins or butterfly clips. just please be sure not to cause any tension onto the curls. Please use your best judgment!

• If you choose to Wash & Go directly before your appointment and are concerned it will not be dry on time, please check in with me first! I might be able to accommodate your arrival a few minutes before your appointment to finish drying under the hooded dryer. Send me an email ahead of time if you would like to consider this option.
